The Engineering Practice is one of the main driving forces working to increase the DevSecOps capability of Engineering Pods within Platforms, through the adoption of Software Development, Testing, Cloud, Platform Operations and Tooling Practices. Practice Leads work closely with the Practice Family Lead, Product Owners, and Engineering Leads and are responsible for the roadmap that aims to develop more DevSecOps capability. They work towards the common goals of Engineering Practice to establish/maintain Engineering standards and align/share Engineering best practices, develop Engineering capabilities and skills of pod members, and evaluate and ensure the Tooling Availability for core engineering activities.

Main responsibilities of the Practice Leads are to:
  • Evangelize and influence engineering best practices within departament and with the wider engineering community
  • Own and evolve the strategy of the Practice Family
  • Own the governance around standards and tooling
  • Collaborate with Platform Practice Leads to define missing standards
  • Support the Platform Practice Leads drive standards and tools across engineering pods
  • Align approaches with the other Engineering Practices within the organisation
  • Define metrics and monitor efficiencies of the Practice Family initiatives
  • Help address skill gaps in engineering pods by providing upskilling/training opportunities
  • Support the Platform Practice Leads identify solutions to engineering gaps/challenges
  • Facilitate development of cross-functional capabilities to address common gaps/challenges
  • Help remove blockers on adoption of Engineering initiatives
  • Evangelize good solutions achieved within platforms/pods with the wider engineering community

Requirements:

Technical Skills
  • Is tech-forward in thinking, actively researching new ideas/processes and is the driving force to adopt them
  • Is a generalist with the breadth and depth of experience in CICD best practices and has core experience in one of the following areas:
    1. Software Development (ie. Secure coding/SDLC/API development/clean code management)
    2. Testing (ie. TDD/BDD/Automated testing/Contract testing/API testing)
    3. Site Reliability Engineering (ie. Release engineering/Observability/Risk management)
  • Can apply their thinking to many problems across multiple technical domains
  • Contributes to architectural discussions by asking the right questions to ensure a solution matches the business needs

  • Can identify solutions which help make the bank better, faster, safer
  • Leads other people to use or change their behaviours, including enabling others
  • Can explain technology well to business people or senior managers enabling them to understand and buy into a technology direction
  • Can identify risk and opportunities for the business
